DirectX 11 cards on the way!
For those of you looking to get your hands on a copy of Windows 7 and upgrade their computer at the same time, you might want to hold off a bit until the first line of DirectX 11 cards are on the market. After all, the release is not that far off. More after the jump.
Digitimes got word that both nVIDIA and AMD are releasing their new line of video cards to the market before 2010. nVIDIA will have an engineering sample of their GT300 card done at the end of September making the earliest release on their part around December. Falling a month or two behind the launch of Windows 7.
AMD on the other hand is expected to start mass shipping their RV870 series cards in October, beating the launch of Windows 7 and giving them a head start in the DirectX 11 market.
Being the hardware nerd that I am, I'm getting mighty excited to see the performance results. If it's anything like we've seen in the past though, the performance of these cards won't be a massive jump until the next line is released 6 months or more after initial launch. Still, the nerd in me is smiling from ear to ear.

I think I'll be sticking with ATI for the next while. I've been reading a whole lot about nVidia's "new" cards and they all say the same thing... "What new cards?"
This sums it up pretty well: http://www.semiaccurate.com/2009/09/01/nvidia-roadmaps-turn/
Well, I guess it's a switch to DAAMIT for me when I go to purchase a new GPU.
I'm still jealous of my brother's 4870X2.
